Amazfit Bip Smart Watch: Personal Impressions

I was very keen to try brand new Amazfit Bip sports bracelet, wanted to have it as  a replacement for the familiar MiBand. Of course when are getting used with the things, and they are becoming so familiar and  all functions are in demand – you don’t want to change the stuff, especially when it’s on your hand always. Amazfit Bip amazes with his large screen – and this moment is one of the biggest advantages.

The Amazfit Bip fitness bracelet was developed by Huami, which works closely with Xiaomi in terms of bracelets and smart watches. At the beginning of first sales, the price was quite high, now it is comparable to MiBand ($ 90 versus $ 50).

This is a really compact bracelet with fitness features. Alright, better to call this product as a sport-watch. Size and rectangular shape of this smart-device directs it straight to smart-watch category. Even the skins (“skins”, themes) of the display are stylised as watches. Also, as I understood and felt, this product has been based on the Apple watch design, you can see it clearly on the picture… Amazbip is an inexpensive and the brand new durable product!

A few words about it’s structure. The Amazfit Bip is IP68 dust and moisture resistant. You can’t swim with it (according to reviews it is not recommended to swim in the pool and washing in the shower), but you can keep it on the hand while you washing your hands. This watch definitely not suitable for deep immersions.

The display is in 1.28 “size with a capacitive sensor, with a reflector behind the matrix. While bright sunshine, the display fades, but not too much, you can read the information on the screen. The glass is reinforced with Gorilla glass technology. Although, I recommend buying protective glasses anyway. As for the main functionality, unlike the simple MiBand, the Amazfit Bip bracelet is equipped with its own GPS / Glonass signal receiver from Sony. Additionally, there is a built-in three-axis accelerometer, barometer, geomagnetic sensor. This all gives autonomously recorded statistics on movements and activities, which can be viewed both on the bracelet and on the smartphone through the application. This is noticeably a better choice for sports than a simple MiBand.

Like a number of fitness bracelets, Amazfit Bip has a built-in heart rate monitor (Heart rate monitor PPG), which can both in real time and on demand monitor your heart rate for statistics. Scheduled heart rate and sleep measurements are also available. The usual reminder features are also available. The application has a fairly large list of alert settings (calls, applications, messages, including from social networks). The built-in battery has a capacity of about 190mah.

Packaging – Amazfit signature white box:

Inside, the Bip bracelet watch is beautifully laid:

They are off. Just on top of the glass there is a sticker with the image of the display skin:

Apple Watch design clearly seen:

Standard mode displays shows your current time, steps and heart rate, but the display skin can be customised.

USB 5V charger included:

The watch is set at a slight angle:

Detailed instruction book with QR code of the application:

Viewing angles are decent but not perfect:

There is one single button on the case:

On the back side located a PGG heart rate sensor:

Glows green when working:

The strap has been made with soft silicone and a simple buckle:

A big plus is that the strap can be changed.

Generally, the appearance is quite decent, modern, without unnecessary details, but fits nicely into the atmosphere…

Shortly: MiBand performs with similar functions, but it does not have built-in GPS. And how good to see your recorded track after good run or bike ride…

After installing the application, connecting to the watch, the software was updated automatically.

Here is the current version:

The bracelet is very soft, but for the correct measurement, you need to pull it up properly. Bear in mind: if the bracelet is mounted loosely on the hand, the PGG sensor will be counting false information…

Two swipes and activity menu now open!

Time to run…

Of course this watch contains a compass, which is a great plus…

Bracelet share information from your smartphone about the weather…

Display run results:

It’s very convenient that a jogging track is available. This is just the result of the GPS module:

Bike ride 25 km:

To synchronize (and connect) with the bracelet, download the official Mi Fit application from the market

Screenshots of the application: the main screen of the application with general statistics, a menu for measuring heart rate, a statistical report, a training report.

To configure the bracelet, go to the corresponding menu. Please note the charge level is displayed.
Setting alerts – a lot of different modes, you can make your choice or you can leave it by default. Final screenshot: training statistics.

The battery test is here… After the battery has run out and recharge.

Well, what we can say about the AMAZFIT Bip?
In my opinion, this is a kind of hyped Xiaomi MiBand, with a large touch screen, but the same after all is the same MiBend. The same fitness functions, alarm clock, standard clock and alerts. The same heart rate monitor. The main impressions are not from the large display (the Wow-effect passed quite quickly), but from GPS-functions, such as recording a track and a compass with an estimate of the location coordinates. This is probably the most useful (high-quality) function in this bracelet for me. The strap is typical, from the watch, you can easily pick up something that after your taste – this is a plus for sure.

PGG sensor measurements are convenient, especially for statistics. An interesting feature is the collection of statistics on the pulse during sleep – it can be useful. If the strap is not fastened tightly, then the stats will not run as they should. By the way, it is another nice smart device, that can always support you everywhere and in every situation.
